Crane topples in NZ

A five axle All Terrain crane tipped over into a creek this morning to the west of Auckland, New Zealand, when the ground gave way under its outriggers.

We understand that there had been heavy rain overnight and that a temporary embankment collapsed.

The crane was working at a site alongside the Triangle Drive Bridge over Huruhuru Creek near Henderson, west Auckland. The operator escaped without serious injury after the banks of the creek gave way.

The photos that we have been sent do not show a great deal of detail and one of them looks as though it was taken with a mobile phone. However it does support the information that we have been given - that the crane was set up alongside the bank of the stream - always a challenge, no matter how big outrigger mats might be.
