Nooteboom trailers for AFI

Dutch transport trailer manufacturer Nooteboom has supplied two new three axle semi low-loaders to UK based AFI.

The new trailers will be used to move AFI’s largest machines around the country, such as the 33 metre Holland Lift Megastars that weigh in excess of 31 tonnes. Along with the company’s largest JLG Ultra booms.

The trailers, which were supplied through Nooteboom’s UK dealer HSE, are 13.4 metres long and can carry up to 39 tonnes. One will be based in the South and one in the North to provide deliveries from AFI’s network of 18 depots.

AFI specified the new trailers with a detachable integrated guardrail system to provide fall protection for anyone working on the trailer bed.
When the trailers are carrying Megastars, which are wider than the trailer and supported by ‘greedy board’ extension bars, the guardrail system is replaced by a restraint harness system where the driver is attached to a line which runs down the centre of the trailer.

AFI operations director Nick Higgins said: “The purchase of the Nooteboom trailers gives us complete control of the delivery process. As part of our investment plans we will also be upgrading our tractor units on an on-going basis.”
