Mammoet orders 24 more Kobelco crawlers
International heavy lift company Mammoet has ordered a further 24 Kobelco crawler cranes adding to its initial order for five at Bauma 2010.
The five at Bauma were 250 tonne capacity CKE2500-2 for operations in Brazil, Sakhalin and Middle East. Mammoet has increased its order for the CKE2500-2 to 23 and added a further six, 180 tonne capacity CKE1800 - a total of 29 Kobelco cranes in the past year.
The latest cranes are scheduled for a number of projects from Russia to South America, Middle-East, Europe and Australia. Seven CKE2500-2s are heading for the massive Gorgon off-shore LNG Project in Western Australia.
Three of the CKE2500-2’s - with tilt cab, 91 metre main boom, and 61 metre luffing jib are destined for The Netherlands. These will be used on a variety of high-profile industrial, petrochemical and maritime projects including the Tata steel works, a new hospital in Utrecht and in Mammoet’s own Port Terminal in Terneuzen.

Jan van Seumeren Jr, Mammoet's chief technical officer said: “The reliability and capacity in the 250 tonnes class were the key factors in deciding to buy
another 23 units of the CKE2500-2 for our worldwide operations.”
Mammoet operates a large number of Kobelco cranes, having ordered the very first 250 tonne Kobelco when the model was introduced in 2000. The latest CKE2500-2 was introduced in 2005 and Kobelco says that more than 800 CKE2500s and related models have been delivered worldwide, making it one of its best-selling craawler cranes on the market.
