Midland buys new

Leicestershire, UK based Midland Truck Mounts has bought its first ever new work platform – a Multitel MX225 on a 3.5 tonne chassis.

The purchase followed a year of evaluation by company owner Martin Rickman. “The Multitel MX225 started as the platform I thought I would most like and after months and months of evaluation and looking at what else was available it was still there at the end.”

“We do a number of jobs where access is difficult,” said Rickman. “The low transit height of the Multitel coupled with its narrow width both in transit and with outriggers deployed will mean we can do these jobs with a truck mount without the need to cross hire in specialist equipment. We also see the boom geometry of the Multitel MX models as versatile across a wide range of different jobs.”

Midland Trucks sees its new addition a dual purpose platform capable of being a self drive 22 metre unit as well as an operated unit. Mounted on a Renault Maxity 130 chassis cab, it has in-line outriggers, 22.5 metres working height with 200 kg platform capacity and up to 10 metres of working outreach.
Midland’s fleet includes models with working heights from 19 to 34 metres.

Comments

As one of the few companies in the UK to supply all our boom type platforms with composite soft ground plates as a standard you might ask why we did not use them on this occasion? A publicity photograph gone wrong? Possibly yes (since someone has clearly mis-interpreted it).

We were trying to show off the fantastic outreach of the platform from a very small ground footprint. The unit is on a solid concrete base, not tarmac or asphalt, so not one for your death wish series or even dangerous situations gallery.

We might add we do supply truck mounted scissor lifts to airlines for aircraft maintenance where we do not supply soft ground plates as standard. In this case however the lifts work exclusively on the airport apron, which supports jumbo jets and A380 Airbus, so we know the four outriggers on our Transit mounted scissor lift will not cause any problems.

We strongly support the use of soft ground plates and constantly tell people to remember that sometimes they are not enough if the ground is soft. You must judge every situation on its merits.

A totally valid comment we look to pick this up when posting stories. In this case Midland has called to say that it agrees with the comment totally and that this is a stock photo supplied by the manufacturer. We will look to substitute.

Here we have a 22.5m Lorry Mount working at full reach with no outrigger mats to spread the point loadings. What we see in the picture could easly punch through the tarmac!!!!!!!!!!!
