New Potain from the East

Manitowoc’s Asian plants have started building the new Potain MC 125 quick erect tower crane.

The new crane is built at the company’s plant in Zhangjiagang, China and at its Pune production facility in India. Designed as a city type crane with saddle jib design, it incorporates several design innovations including a single-tie jib which can be assembled at ground level and lifted in a single piece.

The 1.6 x 1.6 metre mast sections are pin-connected for fast erection, while other components are designed for lightweight handling or removal. Maximum jib length is 60 metres -five metres longer than its predecessor, the MC 115 B - at which it can lift 1.15 tonnes. Maximum free-standing height is 44 metres and maximum capacity six tonnes.

The crane includes a double trolley allowing it to lift three tonnes when working with a single trolley or the full six tonnes when working with both. Two versions of Potain’s 24 kW 33PC15 hoist are available with the crane.
When working with a 480 volt power supply, the 33PC15(GH), has 400 metres of rope available for high-rise building work and offers lift speeds of up to 96 metres a minute with 1.5 tonnes on the hook.

Raymond Tang, regional product manager for Potain tower cranes, said: “Customers can get the MC 125 ready to work in a day. There are a number of innovations that make the crane quick and easy to erect, with only lightweight handling required. Assembling tower cranes in city centres can often be subject to restrictions, so we have concentrated on making this as simple as possible for our customers.”

The new crane will, at least initially only be available in Asia, South America, the Middle East and Eastern Russia.
For easier maintenance, the MC 125’s cab has been located on the same side as the trolley platform. There are platforms and catwalks leading to all the crane’s mechanisms and a derrick is supplied as standard to help with maintenance duties.

As with all Asian made Potain cranes, the MC 125 is designed and manufactured in accordance with European FEM standards.
