Manhattan death wish

A reader spotted a man in Manhattan with total disregard for safe working practices in spite of using an aerial lift.

Apart from working directly over the top of pedestrians and the apparent lack of traffic control measures, our man not only climbs up on the platform guardrails, but also leans over to reach the sign he is working on.

Working over the top of pedestrians

On a sort of positive note he is wearing a harness, but with a very long lanyard. In fact he may be breaking the OSHA recommendation that a harness should not be used when the anchor point is less than 18.5ft above the ground.

As if this is not enough he climbs the guardrails and then leans right over

It is a bit of a puzzle why he is working in this manner, rather than simply lowering the boom? Unless he thinks that the boom will then be too low in relation to tall pedestrians????

A closer look

Whatever his reasons it definitely qualifies to join our Death Wish series.

After all the trouble the City of New York has had in regard to construction accidents and the like, you would think that workman would think a little first before encountering a city inspector who would make life a little harder for him, but where is the city inspector?
Inspectors cannot be everywhere but it is still the employees responsibility to work safe.
