Turkish electric for Oil & Steel

Italian based manufacturer Oil & Steel has won a major contract to supply the Turkish electricity company Enerjisa Baskent.

The initial deal is for 60 platforms of various models, including the Scorpion 1160, Snake 189 Smart and Snake 2512 Compact, all of which will be mounted on Iveco Daily vehicles and equipped with 1,000 volt insulated fibreglass baskets. Please register to see all images

Enerjisa Baskent was created several years ago after the state electricity company was privatised. The contract is a ‘first’ in that it is the first time that a Turkish utility company has chosen to buy platforms from a foreign manufacturer, when local products are available that offer similar performance.

According to the company there were a number of very strict criteria applied when choosing the supplier for this specific order which the local producers were unable to satisfy. Firstly, the products had to satisfy the buyers of their reliability and safety as well as the manufacturer’s ability to meet minimum product support standards.

A mounted Scorpion 1160

The Oil & Steel’s models selected were able to meet or beat the criteria, some of which related to CE and EN 280 requirements, even though they are not included within the scope of the local regulations.

Oil & Steel says that the know-how it has acquired through its partnership with Enel in Italy, provided it with a significant advantage in quoting the Turkish utility. The supply contract signed by Enerjisa Baskent includes planned maintenance packages and includes guaranteed on-site assistance over the next five years, which will be provided by Oil & Steel through Rasim Makina, its dealer in the Ankara region of Turkey, where the units will be based.
The hand-over of the first units is due shortly.

Oil & Steel's Snake 15E as supplied to ENEL

On a separate note Oil & Steel has reported a new order for the Unimog mounted Scorpion 15E similar to those that it supplied to Italian electricity company Enel.
