Possible crushing incident

According to local sources, a man working for a demolition contractor who died at a chipboard plant near Liverpool on Saturday, was using a boom lift at the time.

According to the same sources, the man, Dennis Kay, 62, inadvertently operated the booms controls while leaning over to reach something, the machine then moved taking him into an overhead beam, inflicting some crush injuries and then somehow causing him to fall to the ground from a height of around 18 metres.

The incident occurred at the Sonae factory, in Knowsley, where two men lost their lives in December, Kay was working on part of the plant that had been badly damaged by a fire in June. Initial news reports say that his cause of death is unkown. The UK HSE is investigating.

Note:

While we do have confirmed reports that Dennis Kay was died in an accident at the plant, we have not had categorical confirmation that he fell from the platform – or even that he was definitely in the platform – However the information we have been sent is corroborated by reports in the local press and does seems too detailed not to be at least largely accurate.
