Offshore crane fatality

A man died on Tuesday after he was struck by a falling crane boom off the coast of Texas.

The incident occurred on a platform owned by Energy Resource Technology, part of Helix Energy Solutions, in the High Island production block in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to a statement from ERT the crane was lifting a large piece of equipment from the rig to a supply boat when the boom hoist cable snapped, starting off a chain of events which resulted in an employee of the Wood Group, a service contractor, being fatally struck by part of the crane. No one else was injured.

The man has now been named as 20 year old Brandon Noland from Katy, near Galveston.
