Bigge to offer TRAM

Bigge Equipment Company has signed a partnership agreement with Standfast to distribute its TRAM fall restraint system.

Bigge will offer sales, installation and full product support across the crane industry in North America for the Travel Restraint Access Module (TRAM) that allows users to move along the top of a crane boom without risk of falling. It is produced by Chicago-based Standfast.

Under the new OSHA Cranes & Derricks in Construction Rule, fall protection is required on all cranes above a height of six feet.

Bigge sales manager Brian Noga said: “Crane owners really have to step up their game now. Working practices must change, and so must the equipment. In due course we will see every crane have a TRAM installed, or something like it. What we like about TRAM is that it is based on fall restraint, rather than just a fall arrest system that catches you after you’ve fallen.”

“A fall arrest system may stop you hitting the ground but it doesn’t stop you falling. TRAM prevents falls from happening.”

Bigge’s first installation will be on the largest telescopic boom crane in the fleet of sister company Bigge Crane & Rigging, a Terex AC 500.

Standfast chief executive Cameron Baker added: “I have been really impressed by the enthusiasm that Bigge Equipment has shown for TRAM. This is a company that is showing real leadership in the drive to improve safety in the industry.”
