9 arrested in tower crane protest
Authorities arrested nine Greenpeace activists after climbing a tower crane at a South African coal-fired power station. The protest was against the dependence on coal prior to the country hosting a global conference on climate change.

The protest began at dawn at the Kusile power station. Six people were arrested after they were persuaded to come down peacefully and safely after climbing the crane.
Greenpeace spokeswoman Fiona Musana said a total of nine protesters, including some on the ground inside the site, were arrested and freed late last night on bail. They were ordered to return to court on charges of trespassing and malicious damage to property.
