Bernard Hunter takes first LTC 1045

UK based crane rental company Bernard Hunter has taken delivery of the first Liebherr LTC 1045-3.1 City type All Terrain crane in the UK.

The innovative 45 tonne crane joins a large fleet of Liebherr cranes at the family owned Edinburgh based company, which has been buying Liebherr mobile cranes for more than 30 years.

Bernard Hunter was founded in 1946 and in addition to providing a full crane hire service to Scotland’s central belt and northern England, also has interests in metal recycling, including vehicle scrapping and processing, machinery movement and secure storage facilities.

The LTC 1045-3.1 was launched at Bauma last year and then demonstrated earlier this year at Vertikal Days. The single cab is mounted on a short telescopic ‘boom’ allowing it to sit on the superstructure for crane duties, but then relocate to the front of the chassis for road travel. An additional benefit is that the cab can also be elevated to almost eight metres for a better view – ideal for shipyard work or loading high sided vehicles.

The LTC 1045-3.1 is designed as a “taxi” crane and has a total weight of 36 tonnes and 12 tonne axle loads, complete with the full 6.5 tonnes of counterweight, its bi-fold swing-away extension and hook block.

Bernard Hunter’s contracts director Mark Rafferty said: “We are delighted with this extremely versatile crane which has opened up a whole new range of capabilities for our crane hire operations. Tight spaces and low headroom are no problem for this compact machine and we have already completed successful lifting contracts on dockside applications and machinery installations. Once again, Liebherr has succeeded in making a small crane with big lift capabilities and the elevating cab is a superb feature”.
