Ramirent swaps mast climbers for scaffold

Finnish based international rental company Ramirent has acquired the scaffold division of Ajos, a subsidiary of the Danish construction company MT Højgaard.

In the same deal Ramirent as sold its Danish hoist and mast climbing work platform business to Ajos. Ramirent is looking for the transaction to strengthen its scaffolding operations in greater Copenhagen area.

The acquired scaffolding division is based in Avedøre Holme in Hvidovre and employs 26. It has a capacity of 80,000 square metres and puts Ramirent among the top six scaffolding suppliers in Denmark. No further details of the deal have yet been released.

Erik HØi, senior vice president of Ramirent Denmark said: “Ajos is a leading scaffolding rental supplier in greater Copenhagen and the acquired scaffolding solutions will complement Ramirent’s offering in particular in renovation and weather cover projects where we wish to strengthen our position. Ajos’ scaffolding customers will hereby also benefit from Ramirent’s entire range of dynamic rental solutions”.

Vertikal Comment

It is hard to believe that Ramirent is exiting the mast climber and hoist market in Denmark for good. The company has a significant toe in this market across the countries in which it operates. However for the short to medium term it probably makes good sense to move from a minority player in two markets to a leading player in one. It can always move back into the hoist business at a later date through another specialist acquisition.

Looks like a good move.
