Manitowoc strike is over
The machinists at Manitowoc Crane’s plant in Manitowoc Wisconsin have agreed to return to work after 66 days on strike.
The strike by Machinists Local 516 was all about the freedom for workers to choose whether they joined the union or not. A four year pay deal with annual increase of two percent was finalised early on.
The vote in favour of ending the strike was 112 for and 59 against. Those on strike will return to work in a phased manner form next week.
A statement from Manitowoc said: “Manitowoc Cranes is pleased that members of IAM Local 516 followed the recommendation of its union leadership to vote for the tentative agreement. This has been a stressful situation, but now we will begin the process of bringing people back to work and getting back to what we do best — building the world’s finest cranes.”
