New Grove for Metcalf

Australian crane rental company Metcalf Crane Services of Somerton Victoria, has taken delivery of a new 55 tonne Grove GMK3055 All-Terrain crane.

The three-axle GMK3055 has an overall vehicle length of just 10.9 metres, which makes it ideal for smaller job sites. Other Grove cranes in the Metcalf fleet include the 130 tonne GMK5130-1 and the GMK5130-2.
The GMK5130-1, purchased in 2005, was the company’s first new Grove and seven years later it is still working well. Metcalf also runs a 100 tonne GMK4100 and a 220 tonne GMK5220.

Metcalf owner and founder Tim Metcalf said: “We bought this crane at the end of 2011 to help us meet growing demand from customers for cranes around this capacity class. We studied the market and compared load charts, pricing and availability and the GMK3055 looked like the ideal choice.”

“The Megatrak system gives Grove cranes the strongest suspensions in the industry and we like the fact we can carry more counterweight on-site with our Grove cranes than we can with other models.”

Kelvin Kent (L), general manager Manitowoc Australia/New Zealand, hands over the new Grove GMK3055 to Tim Metcalf.

“Our early success was all based around just getting the job done for customers,” he added. “And that attitude resulted in more work and allowed us to grow our business, purchase new cranes and add to our workforce. Our experience in general rigging, steel erection and pre-cast concrete placement has also helped us develop a reputation for unparalleled service.”

Metcalf Crane Services based near Melbourne, was founded 1996 by Tim Metcalf after a number of years operating cranes in the construction industry. His first unit was a new 70 tonne IHI CCH700 crawler crane. The largest crane in its fleet is a 350 tonne Demag AC350, although a fully equipped 600 tonne Terex TC2800-1 lattice boom truck crane is due to join the fleet this year.
