the Titan Group was founded in 1965 when the late Max Whiley, supported by five partners - Bob Burnett, George Lemmon, Bert Martyn, Jack Tidd and Ray Vincent, - purchased the heavy haulage and crane rental division of Wilkins and Davies, which traded as Titan Plant Services. All five owned their own businesses but became directors and shareholders of the new company, along with Whiley.
The new company initially focused on crane rental and used crane and heavy equipment sales. In 1977 the crane rental business was moved into a separate company Titan Cranes, while Titan Plant Services concentrated on sales and service in 1979 it was appointed as the P&H crane distributor, replacing it with the Kato cranes franchise in 1992. Until last year if also handled Volvo construction equipment and Yanmar mini excavators, but sold this part of the business to Transdiesel in April 2011.
