Niftylift launches two new booms
UK based aerial lift manufacturer Niftylift has launched two new articulated self-propelled booms today at a customer open day at Towcester Racecourse.
The largest of the two is the 86ft platform height/28 metre working height HR28 Hybrid 4x4 – Niftylift's largest boom to date – the other is new low weight 45ft articulated boom, the HR15 Diesel.

The articulated jib tucks under without increasing overall height on both new booms
The Nifty HR28 Hybrid – which claims to be the world’s largest battery electric powered boom with its 28 metre working height, boasts a class-leading 19 metre working outreach with a three man - 280 to 300kg platform capacity depending on final testing.
Weighing just 14,500kg, the HR28 is more than a tonne lighter that most competitors and has an overall stowed length of around 7.5 metres – with its articulated jib fully ‘tucked under’ - without increasing travel height. In Europe transportation on 26 tonne delivery trucks should be possible.
Power options include straight diesel 4x2, diesel 4x4, or Hybrid /Bi-Energy 4x4 – with a full battery powered unit possible. Gradeability is 40 percent.

Platform rotation is a full 180 degrees, while the articulated jib has a range of 150 degrees. Slew is 360 degrees continuous thanks, the heavy duty battery pack being on the superstructure.
The Hybrid power plant and catalytic converter greatly reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The HR28 Hybrid also comes with Niftylift’s SiOPS (Sustained Involuntary Operation Prevention System) as standard, providing an added level of protection for the operator.

HR15D
Weighing 4,250kg, the new HR15D is the lightest 45ft self propelled boom available on the market today, and yet it still offers a working outreach of 9.2 metres and working height of 15.6 metres. The Tier 4 engine is installed with a particulate filter to further reduce emissions and is currently offered in both 2x4 and 4x4 drive.

The HR15D also comes with SiOPS and Niftylift’s ToughCage as standard and will be available for delivery in autumn 2012, it will be less costly than the heavier unit it replaces. Almost all of its running gear is common to the Niftylift HR17. Gradeability is 35 percent.

“It was a fantastic day for both us and our customers," said Niftylift managing director John Keely. "It was a great opportunity for them to evaluate the new machines and for us to assess their reactions. The new products received some very positive feedback from some key players in the industry, which is very encouraging. As were the orders we received for the new models.”
More in the next issue of Cranes & Access and you can see these new models in the iron at Vertikal Days next month.
Vertikal Comment
These are two game-changing products adding or creating momentum to a whole new generation of boom lifts that are coming out of the mid-sized manufacturers, including Manitou’s 28 metre telescopic boom - the 280TJ launched late last year and Haulotte’s HT23RTJ show at Intermat last month. Looking a little further back you might add JLG’s 1500SJ to this list.
It is entirely possible that these new products will trigger a whole wave of new product development of lighter weight, more efficient, higher performance boom lifts, helping revitalise a market where most new booms are pretty much the same as 10 year old models.
While Niftylift’s 28 metre HR28 brings additional choice to what has become
a significant market sector, as well as some unique new features, such as its ability to fit on the back of most 26 tonne trucks, its Hybrid power pack and pure battery electric ability. It is the 45.5ft HR15 which might prove to be the most revolutionary of the two.
The HR15 is staggeringly lighter than any mainstream product on the market and yet is right out in front in terms of outreach and bang in the mainstream with its working height. Up and over height is just slightly lower than the others, but the machine itself is significantly shorter than most products on offer – adding to its transportability.
Add to all this the suggestion of a very competitive price, plus the extra goodies such as a Hybrid power option, non-marking RT tyres and the Tough Cage.. and this little boom could prove to be a breakthrough product for Niftylift
