JLG sponsors summer school course

JLG has sponsored a week long engineering course for girls at Hagerstown Community College in Maryland.

The company’s donation of $2,310 covered the tuition of the 14 girls, aged between nine and 14 years old, to participate in the course titled “Girls Exploring Engineering”. During the course the girls were introduced to elements of civil, mechanical electrical and environmental engineering.

As well as participating in hands-on projects they also heard from four female JLG engineers, including chief engineer Joan LaSalle, senior engineer- April Tran, design engineer Cathy Martin, and a Hagerstown Community College alumna Megan Schultz who is now a design engineer.

Hagerstown Community College offers a diverse selection of programmes for elementary, middle, or high school students, the Girls Exploring Engineering course is offered each summer as part of the school’s College for Kids programme.
