Liebherr container cranes on a roll

Liebherr Container Cranes has recently delivered a number of RTG cranes to ports in Poland, Egypt, Ireland and Russia – as it looks set to exceed last year’s figures.

In Gdansk, Poland deepwater container terminal DCT Gdansk has taken delivery of three 16 wheeler RTG cranes which have a one over four configuration and can stack up to seven containers wide. The cranes will join a further 11 Liebherr RTG cranes as well as five Liebherr STS cranes already in operation at the port.

DP World Sokhna which operates in Egypt has taken a second delivery of six RTG cranes with a one over five configuration, increasing its number of RTG cranes to 11.

Liebherr also delivered six RTGs with a one over five configuration to a port in St. Petersburg following an major contract with OJSC Petrolesport. The company also is due to supply a further five RTG cranes and three 50 tonne capacity panamax ship to shore cranes to the port.

All the RTG cranes delivered have been fitted with an eight rope reeving anti-sway system as standard. The simultaneous operation of the gantry, hoist and travel motors allows for improved positioning of the spreader and eliminates the need for a head block. The simplified hoist configuration also optimises drive power for maximum energy reduction.

Pat O’Leary, managing director at Liebherr Container Cranes, said: “In today’s port environment productivity and costs are crucial. Downtime is expensive and bottlenecks on landside operations can have serious repercussions for quayside operations and overall profit.”

“During 2012 we scheduled the delivery of several RTG projects and by year end we will have exceeded last year’s figures. Initial indications are that 2013 figures are in accordance with projections.”
