Terex apprentices win awards
Two Terex fourth year apprentices have won first and second place in the 2012 German Welding Championship which was held in Saarbrücken and hosted by the German Association of Welding and Related Processes.
Thomas Maske won first place achieving 1,568 out of 1,600 possible points followed closely by his colleague Hans-Peter Lutz with 1,560 points. Participants were asked to weld a structural steel pressure vessel with a maximum allowable operating pressure of 60 bar in less than eight hours. Following this they were then made to weld two additional samples of their work using aluminium and nickel-chromium alloy.
A jury made up of six experts inspected the welds taking into account whether the pressure vessel was tight. The participants also had to demonstrate the mastery of four required welding methods which included: metal active gas welding (MAG), stick welding, self-shielded flux-cored arc welding, and tungsten inert gas welding (TIG).

Francois Truffier, general manager of Terex Zweibrücken, said: “The fact that our apprentices have once again displayed an outstanding level of performance at this type of competition shows that we train our young talent to be the best. Welding is an essential part of the production and high quality welding means reliability and safety for the cranes. We are very happy to see that our investment in such talent will contribute to deliver results to our customers.”
