Fatal telehandler accident

A man has died two weeks after he was crushed by a telehandler at Maisemore, near Gloucester in the UK.

Stone mason Spencer Powles, 64, has been fighting for life at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, since the incident occurred on October 24th at the facility of Complete Utilities. He had only recently started work there.

The police and the Health & Safety Executive have launched an investigation into the death and have arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

A statement from Gloucestershire Police said: "A man was arrested on Thursday, November 15, in relation to an incident being investigated by Gloucestershire Constabulary and the Health and Safety Executive. The 39-year-old from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and has been bailed to attend Cheltenham Police Station on December 18, pending further inquiries."

Complete Utilities managing director Steve Chaplin said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with his friends and family."
