Horizon goes PAL+
The advanced IPAF operator training course PAL+ is beginning to gather steam as more training centres offer it.
In the UK Horizon Platforms recently held its first PAL+ training course and decided that its sales force should all be trained to the advanced standard.
The course was carried out at the company’s West Yorkshire rental and training facility, where the practical apparatus for the PAL+ course has been manufactured as a permanent fitting within the centre.

The PAL+ Practical with scissor lift
Horizon’s joint managing director Ben Hirst said: “The safe use of aerial lifts is at the heart of everything we do here at Horizon. We therefore welcomed the opportunity to become a provider of IPAF’s new advanced operator training course, PAL+. To ensure we effectively promote the potential benefits, we felt it necessary to enrol the sales team to undertake the qualification, thus allowing them to understand the course content and the skills required to succeed in completing the rigorous practical element.”

Mick Backhouse, Horizon’s IPAF training instructor added: “As well as being trained to IPAF Demonstrator standard, we encourage all our sales staff to operate access equipment on a regular basis. This greatly assists them in carrying out effective site surveys, but also keeps them abreast of the latest advancements in the technology used in the machines. Even with this level of experience they all commented on how tough the PAL+ practical session was. But with patience and very delicate operator skills, we were delighted to see all three pass their tests.”
