A bright start to the week
Liebherr has sold a new fire brigade version of its LTM 1070-4.1 to the Ulm fire department in Germany.
Liebherr has been manufacturing special fire brigade cranes for more than 30 years. During which time it has delivered more than 80 of them. with lifting capacities of between 25 and 70 tonnes.
The fire brigade cranes are standard production units with specialist equipment for: personnel rescue, securing vehicles in danger of falling from bridges, lifting and straightening loads that have been shed, rescuing and towing away defective vehicles, providing support for fire fighting, clearing fire areas and removing storm damage.

LTM 1070-4.1 frie crane sold to the Ulm fire brigade
At the Interschutz 2005 show in Hanover, Liebherr featured the new 70 tonne LTM 1070-4.1, prior to delivering it to the Ulm Brigade. The new crane replaces the LTM 1060/2, in service with the Mannheim, Kaiserslautern and Hamburg fire brigades as well as the Trient Fire Brigade in Italy.
The 50 metre telescopic boom is eight metres longer than its predecessor, boom length was an important consideration for the Ulm Brigade, for use with fires in high buildings such as high-rack warehouses or to reach the rear of residential buildings in order to rescue personnel using a basket, when rescue from the front is not possible.

LTM 1070-4.1 to the Ulm fire brigade
The Ulm Fire Brigade has chosen specific fire brigade options for rescue and towing work, including: A rescue winch with 80kN pulling power an additional winch with an electrical remote control, fitted to the back of the vehicle, towing equipment with a capacity of eight tonnes for hitching and towing away vehicles and emergency back up systems to enable the crane to continue working in the event of failure of the engine or hydraulic pumps.
Extra lights include, a revolving identification light, fire siren, electrically-adjustable working spotlight on the base section, working spotlight on the boom head and a special reversing spotlight fitted to the outside mirror mountings.

View of the towing and recovery gear
A short lattice jib fitted to the end of the boom enables a remotely-controlled water hose to be fitted, for the delivery of 5000 litres of water at nozzle heights of up to 53 m.
A 30 tonne lifting beam that can be extended to 3.5 m is fitted to the front of the vehicle for lifting long loads, such as rescuing overturned trucks.
Liebherr has also received another order from the Luxembourg for an LTM 1070-4.1 fire brigade crane.
