Aerial lift fatality
A man has died at University College Cork, in Ireland earlier today after he was struck by an aerial work platform, which was being used to repair lights on the main drive from the gates up to the buildings.
An investigation has been launched, but it is far from clear what exactly happened. We understand though, that the man -Frank McGrath, 58 - a member of staff at the college, was directing the lift as it reveresed, when it struck him on the head.
A statement from the university this evening said: "The university is deeply saddened by the accident and wishes to extend its sincere sympathy to the family of the staff member. UCC will offer its full support to the family of our deceased colleague and to members of staff, who are deeply shocked."
