30 years of Wumag Elevant

It was on July 26th, 1975, that the trade mark "Elevant' was granted in document no. 948611 of the German patent office. This name came from an in house competition to find a catchy name for the new range of aerial work platforms in the summer of 1974. The prize was a crate of sparkling wine!

The patent/trademark application dated 23.09.1974 states “the brand ELEVANT is derived from the word ‘elevator’ and should be associated as wordplay with an elephant, whose proboscis bears resemblance to our hydraulic work platforms."

Wumag, a company that came into being as a rail Wagon producer, had produced simple elevating platforms since the mid 50’s and then became a licensee of Simon Dudley from the UK, when the agreement expired in 1973 Wumag was obliged to develop its own range of lifts and thus a new name.
