Home builders move towards all CSCS card sites

The UK’s largest house builders have teamed up with ConstructionSkills (the sector skills council, see below) in a bid to increase the number of young people entering the building trade.

The initiative also aims to make CSCS cards, or equivalent mandatory on all Major Home Builder Group (MHBG) sites by 2007
IPAF's PAL Card is recognised as being CSCS equivalent.

As part of this latest move, the two parties have launched a new three-point programme of initiatives to increase the number of training opportunities available

This three-point programme includes:

-The MHBG and ConstructionSkills will jointly develop a new initiative to significantly increase the number of training places for skilled trades within the house building industry, In addition to MHBG’s existing commitment to traditional apprenticeship training.

-MHBG and ConstructionSkills will both promote the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) through sub-contractors with the aim of having a fully card-carrying workforce by 2007.

-MHBG and ConstructionSkills will work together to draw up a new flexible qualifications structure for residential site management that can be delivered in an efficient way to ensure site managers have the appropriate and relevant skills for the projects they are working on.

ConstructionSkills is the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry. It is a partnership between CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and CITB Northern Ireland.
