Tadano inaugurates Thai plant

Japanese crane manufacturer Tadano has started production at its new Bt310 million ($10.2 million) manufacturing facility in Thailand.

The new plant, located on the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate, in Rayong will initially produce components for the company’s cranes, but will also begin building and mounting telescopic loader cranes for the Thai market later this year and then begin exporting to other Asean countries, the Middle East, Australia and Africa next year.

The company plans to invest another Bt150 million ($5 million) in a second-phase expansion, due to complete in 2015. Please register to see all images

The company says that plant will have an initial capacity to build up to a 1,000 units a year, expandable to 2,000 units, once the second phase is complete. The crane produced will be the commercial truck mounted telescopic loader cranes.

Chief executive Koichi Tadano said: "This investment in a manufacturing facility in Thailand is our first investment in Asean as we look to tap the Kingdom's strong potential, especially in logistics and infrastructure. These strengths have encouraged our confidence to invest in this country."
