Fire brigade in action at bauma

Exhibitors arriving at the bauma show on Thursday morning were startled to see a Munich Fire Brigade helicopter come swooping in over a Liebherr tower crane and proceed to winch a six person team down onto the crane. Minutes later the procedure was repeated in reverse as the team was taken off together with what appeared to be an injured person on a stretcher.

In fact the whole operation was an exercise designed to test the Fire Brigade's rapid response unit. A spokesman told Vertikal.net: "We don't often have the chance to practice on such a tall crane without disrupting a building site".

The exercise was declared a complete success and was over before the show's main gates were opened to the public at 09.30.
