Lift overturn in Dublin

A truck mounted platform overturned in Dublin, Ireland, recently, injuring the two men in the platform.

Details of the incident have been difficult to discover, and there are still some aspects that we have been unable to confirm, including the precise date and location.

We have requested information from the owner of the platform, RFC - Reach For Hire but as of going to press have received no input, comment or feedback. Based on the photograph it looks as though the lift was overloaded, either by reaching beyond its safe working envelope, or due to too much weight in the platform. The machine looks to be in a very good state of repair, and has been set up with some care.

The overturned platform

What we have been told, is that the lift overturned on an commercial estate in the Dublin area, that the machine was set up with outriggers inboard and that the two men were wearing harnesses and lanyards. We understand that one man sustained a back injury, the other a broken leg. We also understand that the machine was an 18 metre unit, and that the two were working on a security alarm.

RFC’s main business covers a wide range of security services and car park management, while its Reach For Hire division, according to its website the company offers 18 metre telescopic truck mounted lifts for rental with operators.

As soon as we obtain further information we will update this report.
