The failed hoist is secured
The incident occurred on a new student accommodation block currently being built by John Holland construction. It appears that bolts or ties on the hoist - a Geda rented from Sydney Hoists - gave way causing the mast to bend and the car to tilt. All three men escaped through the emergency hatch without injuries.

Two cranes and a platform were used to recover the hoist
Two mobile cranes and boom lift were called in to remove the damaged hoist. A brief statement from the university said that no one was injured and that it had asked the company for ‘further information on the cause of the incident and that no follow-up action was required'.
