HTC strike action resolution

Tower crane operators at UK rental company HTC have ended their strike threats after accepting a 14 percent pay increase over three years. The agreement has also restored a series of expenses and allowances which the crane operators held prior to 2008.

At the beginning of October, approximately 180 HTC crane operators, who were members of the UK construction union Ucatt, voted in favour carrying out three 24 hour strikes, in an attempt to restore pay to pre-recession levels, following a period where salaries were frozen and allowances apparently cut.

HTC general manager Dave Holder, said: “We are happy that common sense has prevailed and all future planned industrial action cancelled. The latest pay deal gives HTC future certainty on a large proportion of our cost base well into 2017, whilst recognising operator's legitimate pay aspirations.”

Steve Murphy, general secretary of Ucatt, added: “We welcome the agreement as it gives stability to both sides. Our members have certainty about pay and HTC have certainty over their future business costs. UCATT is now looking forward to a fruitful relationship with HTC.”
