Michelin opens US facility
Michelin has invested $50 million in a new manufacturing facility in North America which will produce its innovative Tweel tyres.
The 41,148 square metre facility, located in Piedmont, South Carolina, will now produce its range of Tweel X, SSL and Turf tyres. Originally introduced as a concept in 2004, the Tweel (amalgamation of the words ‘tyre’ and ‘wheel’) is an airless tyre designed for the construction, agricultural, contracting and refuse/recycling industries. Operating as a single unit, its rigid hub is connected to the outer surface by deformable polyurethane spokes. The company said it is able to deliver excellent traction, comfort and stability as well as eliminating the challenge of flat tyres.
