First female crane operator
Hong Kong has reportedly certified its first female crane operator. Janet Wong, 25, spent eight weeks in training in order to gain licences for rubber-tyred and rail-mounted gantry cranes. She followed this up with a further two weeks of training in order to obtain a licence for remote control gantry cranes.

Wong joined Hong Kong International Terminals in 2012, as a management trainee, and last year was offered to chance to train for the crane operator’s licence. She is apparently one of four female crane operator trainees at the port aiming for the licence, and has the chance to become one of over a thousand crane operators at the port. As the port is currently 40 operators short, Wong could from time to time step in, although she says she needs to gain more real lift experience/practice first.
