Strong start to Rental show

The 2006 Rental show opened its doors this morning at the ARA convention in Orlando Florida. The show kicked of to a rousing start with well over a 1,000 people turning out to hear Barbara Bush give the keynote address.

The knock on effect was a very strong first days show. A number of the access and telehandler stands featured new products. Perhaps the most surprising was the much trailed Skyjack re-entry into the boom market.

The New Skyjack SJ45T boom lift


Surprising in that it is a straight boom and not an articulated. The new model or rather models are designated, SJ40T and SJ45T with 40 and 45 ft (12.2 and 13.6 metres) platform heights respectively and 10 and 11.5metres outreach. The SJ45T has a 1.5 metre jib while the 40 does not, standard features include 360 degree turret rotation two or four wheel drive and easy access for maintenance.

Another view of the new Skyjack boom


Another new boom was seen on the Snorkel stand, it is launching what it calls the TB85J fixed axle, meaning narrow non telescopic axle boom with 85ft (26 metres) platform height machine. With 2.6 metre overall fixed width. With a 170 degree jib and 23.4 metre outreach it looks a handy machine.

MEC launched two new Compact rough terrain scissor lifts the 3072RT and 3772RT with 9.1 and 11.3 metre platform heights. Both units have an overall width of 1.83m and a length of 2.98 metres. With two or four wheel drive and 40 and 45 percent gradeability.

The show was also the first chance for most to view the new telehandler product line purchased from Volvo. The TH80 looked very good in the MEC colours and according to Jim Tolle the company has already sold the first 30 units. The show unit featured both boom mounted and rear view CCTV cameras which feed into an in cab screen.

Haulotte unveiled its plans for the North American market setting itself a 10 percent market share within two years. The company claims that it currently has between three and five percent with a population of around 5,000 units, all sold since 2001. Chris Koch will head the US team which will operate from four service locations, in Baltimore, Los Angeles, Chicago and a South Western location yet to be fixed.

Haulotte is making a major push in the USA


JLG launched the new 20MVL, a six metre platforms height self-propelled mast lift platform drivable at full height with 160 kgs lift capacity. JLG says that this product has been designed for heavy-duty applications including stocking overhead shelves, store maintenance and decoration, light construction jobs and general maintenance applications.
