Chester grind

Spotted in the centre of Chester in the UK at the start of the month, two men removing a heavy sign with little attention to passing pedestrians

Spotted in Chester, England two men up a ladder

The two men shared a larger step ladder and then proceeded to cut the sign free from the wall with an angle grinder. Not only did they shower the street with sparks, but also seemed unaware of how heavy the sign was, so that when it came free it could very easily have overwhelmed them - given their precarious perches - and fallen on an innocent pedestrian, or tipped the ladder sideways.

Grinding the sign off the wall

In the words of our reader: “Attached are some pictures taken in Chester two weeks ago on a Friday afternoon, the guys were taking down a sign which looked reasonably heavy, the sign had to be cut off with an angle grinder and not only were they perched on steps with no barrier, the sparks from the grinder were flying all over people. I would hate to think what would happen if they dropped the angle grinder or sign, also they could have easily fallen”.

Although not the worst case we have seen, we agree – a definite one for our Death Wish series.
