Leaning tower rescued
A tower crane had to be quickly dismantled yesterday as it began to lose stability near Zurich, Switzerland.
The crane, set up on a counterweighted base, in Dällikon North East of Zurich, began to lean as the base apparently began to sink on one side.
A fireman living nearby spotted the crane moving and called the emergency services around midday. Two mobile cranes from rental company Richi quickly arrived site, while around 30 local residents were evacuated from their homes.
The crane was dismantled any made safe by around 17:30 last night.

The crane as the rescue began
Takes a brave person to climb that crane if its moving such that a fireman can see it move ! No hanging about on the dismantling either I bet, any change on the centre of gravity of the crane with a failing foundation must be a risk in itself. Did one of the 2 cranes support the top of the tower while the other removed jib / counterweights / counter-jib from the crane ?
Interesting risk assessments no doubt !
