120 attend work platform safety day
120 aerial lift users and professionals attended the first Tag der ArbeitsBühnenSicherheit, TABS for short, at the Frankfurt airport conference centre today.

The event, organised by Vertikal.net/Kran&Bühne in partnership with IPAF, the International Powered Access Federation, was intended to promote and discuss improved safety awareness and standards within the German speaking powered access world.

Tim Whiteman, MD of IPAF, officially opens the TABS event
Speakers included: Hubert Gardemann of Gardemann Arbeitsbühnen, one of Germanys leading powered access rental companies. He gave a personal account of the effect and stress that a fatal accident has on a company and its staff.

Reinhard Willenbrock of IPAF Deutschland, Dr Klaus Gregor, a Würtzburg based Judge, who routinely covers cases involving workplace accidents, Jürgen Gillner of Ruthman, Holger Hebold of Spanset, Andreus Eiken of VDBUM Ralf Ebner of Wumag and Thomas Sawitzky, an engineer who has designed a parachute system to escape from a large lift in the case of a tip over.

The meeting then went on to see a demonstration of Sawitzky’s invention, at the nearby premises of rental company, Schmidt in Neu Isenberg. More on this invention later.

Reinhard Willenbrock on the importance of training and harnesses
Reponses from the delegates was positive, with the vast majority suggesting that the event become an annual feature in the aerial lift industries calendar.
