Another Genie XC

Genie launched the new S-80/S85XC boom lifts at Apex this week extending the XC concept into the 80/85ft market.

As with other XC models the two new booms feature dual platform capacities - 300kg unrestricted to its full 22.7 metre outreach or 450kg restricted – with automatic operating envelope control, so lower a fully extended boom with more than 300kg in the platform and the boom will smoothly retract as it goes down to keep the platform within the restricted zone.

As with the larger XC models the 80/85s incorporate the new integral load cell that has no moving parts, is highly accurate and offers zero load field calibration. The boom and jib structures have been upgraded to handle the higher 454kg capacity. A new ALC600 control system is both smarter and much simpler and more straightforward to use for both operators and service engineers alike, with significantly improvement in terms of diagnostics and troubleshooting capabilities, while settings and parameters can now be modified directly on the machine without the need for any additional tools.

The new Genie S-85XC

New and improved features include a clear display of gauges on the display controller, new full error code readouts with text, as well as a service mode providing clear menus for settings and parameters, software updates can also be performed directly from the machine’s control panel without the need for a laptop. A password protected display also shows the last 100 faults for both the engine and the overall machine.

The S-85XC was featured on the Genie stand at the show – although we missed it in spite of having photographed it the night before the event opened and included it in the pre Apex review!

As we have already declared the new model is visually much the same as the regular model, but in terms of its performance, electronics and convenience it offers a great deal more. The new platform capacity sensor is an excellent design and should improve both accuracy and long term day to day reliability and set up etc..
