Multitel confirms UK store

Italian truck mounted and spider lift platform manufacturer Multitel Pagliero has confirmed the opening of its new UK direct sale operation.

The UK has been one of the most important markets for Multitel in recent years through dealer Access Industries owned by Melvyn Else, who has worked closely with the factory over many years.

The new venture will be managed by Greg Moore as UK & Ireland account manager, with service managed by Ian Thomson. Both men have spent the past few weeks at the factory receiving training and induction into the business.

Moore entered the access market in 2014 as a national account manager at JLG, prior to which he worked with Linde as a corporate account manager and Briggs Equipment as a key account manager.

The transfer is due to be completed by April, with Else available on a consultancy basis for up to two years to assist with key accounts etc… The new venture joins company stores in France and Germany.

Roberto Marangoni director of international sales said: “The new structure is part of the growing strategy in a key market such as UK and Ireland and will secure a direct and close support to our growing customer portfolio. This footprint change follows a long term and productive relationship with Access Industries and its owner Melvyn Else who after more than 30 years will hand over the responsibility to this new UK structure. We extend our thanks to Melvyn for his support of our product over this time.”

Vertikal Comment

It was a matter of time before the company began its own operation, while he is still very active Else is not getting any younger, and the thought to move to a new dealer would simply not have worked, given how closely he has worked with the factory. In fact Access Industries could easily have been confused as a company store and Else as an employee rather than a separate entity, such was the relationship over the years.

The new team will have a lot to live up to, but if they work closely with Else over the transition period they are likely to get off to a good start.

What a great job Melvin has done over the years. Inevitably the market for truck mounts is not big enough to support full service dealerships as the self propelled and scissor markets do. But as competition increases margins get squeezed and the manufacturers are eventually forced to do it themselves. Let's just hope Melvyn has been rewarded with a decent lump some for keeping Multitel at the forefront. His hard work deserves it.
