Outrigger collapse causes serious injury

Russell Johnson is in intensive care today after being struck by his crane after it collapsed while carrying out a routine lift in Victoria Canada. Johnson was placing a hot tub into the garden of a house in Plowright road.

The hot tub was close to being placed in its final position when one of the outriggers of the 18 tonne boom truck, punched through the ground into void.

The crane turned over clipping Johnson who was standing by the side mounted control station.

It seems that an old septic tank was buried beneath the shared gravel driveway where Johnson had placed the cranes front left hand outrigger.

It is not known if Johnson had used any outrigger mats under the outrigger.
