The five axle AC 220-5 features an eight section 78 metre main boom, plus an 11.4 to 21 metre bi-fold swingaway extension for a 99 metre maximum tip height. The five axle AC 160-5 features a 68 metre main boom plus a 33 metre bi-fold swingaway extension providing a 94.6 metre tip height. The six axle AC 300-6 has an 80 metre main boom and a 21 metre extension, with up to 40 degrees of offset, and a maximum tip height of 118 metres.

The two AC 220-5s are currently helping install wind turbines in Sweden, and the two other cranes will be delivered early next year.

The two new Demag AC 220-5s

Operations manager Martin Leanagh said: “Windhoist is delighted with its recent Demag order. Our two new AC 220-5 cranes are currently busy in Scandinavia. It makes perfect business sense to continue the relationship with Demag. Plans are already in motion for our next order.”

Demag sales manager Lyle Sibbald added: “Windhoist is one of the most recognised names in the wind turbine erection industry around the world and for them to place their trust in Demag with this four crane package is a sign of our longstanding relationship, the strength of our support and quality of our products.”

Windhoist is based in Irvine, western Scotland and is a sister company of Ireland’s McNally’s Crane Hire. It claims to be the largest wind turbine installation contractor in the UK, and runs a fleet of All Terrain, crawler and spider cranes.
