Port crane collapse
A large ship to shore container crane collapsed in Antwerp port on Monday after it was hit by a runaway ship, the entire episode was caught on video.
The incident occurred when high winds caused a container ship, the APL Mexico City, to break loose from her moorings and then strike the boom leading to its complete collapse. The incident caused extensive damage on the quay as well as damaging the ship, she will require repairs before she can set sail.
The crane was not operating at the time, but a number of maintenance engineers were working on the crane when the incident occurred. Fortunately they managed to get clear before the collapse. Terminal operator DP World said that it had evacuated the vicinity of the crane before the impact, helping avoid any injuries.
