Boom overturns in Harlem

A boom lift overturned yesterday, in the Harlem area of Manhattan, New York, when the ground gave way beneath a wheel.

The men were rescued by fire ladder

Two men were using the platform, a 126ft Snorkel T126J telescopic owned by Blakely Equipment Rental, to work on the side of a building at Fifth Avenue and 118th Street. The boom was fully retracted and almost fully elevated, when the ground gave way beneath one of its wheels beneath the counterweight, causing the machine to tip rearwards.

Thankfully the platform/basket came to rest against the building behind and the men were wearing harnesses, with lanyards clipped on. They were rescued with a fire ladder and although they sustained injuries they are reportedly not too serious.
