Cargotec acquires Australian software company

The Navis division of Cargotec is to acquire the assets of Australian software company Biarri Rail. The company specialises in planning and scheduling software for freight railroads. The acquisition is expected to complete by the end of the month.

Based in Melbourne, Biarri Rail aims to help freight rail systems manage the complexities associated with railway planning and improve the utilisation of assets, whilst also substantially reduce operating costs.

Cargotec acquired Navis in 2011 - see: Cargotec acquires systems company - and has added numerous bolt-on acquisitions since then, as it looks to gain an increasing percentage of its revenues from services and systems, rather than hardware.
