Elevated spider lifts

The Mondi paper mill in north east Russia has taken delivery of four Palazzani tracked spider lifts to work on the reconstruction of one of Russia's largest plants, with the machines required to work from elevated travelling platforms.

The four platforms, supplied by local distributor Vertex, included two 27 metre TSJ 27 with a five section main booms and fixed length articulating jibs, plus two 25 metre TZX 250 with a four section boom and fixed jib. All of the units were equipped with bi-energy electric/diesel power packs, allowing them to be used both indoors and out. The 27 metres units were also supplied with 500kg winches for light crane work.

Some of the work required the platforms to operate from specially designed steel platforms that run on a gantry crane track running alongside one of the main buildings at a height of 25 metres. Weight was therefore a serious consideration with the TSJ 27H weighing 4,580kg, while the 25 metre models are considerably lighter at 2,600kg.

A closer look

The machines were sold and adapted to the application by Vertex, which is also carrying out all maintenance and inspection work. Once the rebuild has been completed the machines will be used at this and other Mondi locations.

The units on site in Syktyvkar

Located in Syktyvkar, the capital city of the Komi Republic, the fully integrated mill was built in 1969 and carries out all functions from harvesting the wood to shipping finished good directly to customers. The €100 million upgrade follows the modernisation of power and waste water treatment plants last year and includes a new evaporation plant and various upgrades of the mill infrastructure, fibre lines and pulp dryer.
