Terex Utilities new plant opens

New machines have started rolling off the production lines at the new Terex Utilities manufacturing headquarters in Watertown, South Dakota.

The 42,000 square metre green field facility brings 10 small production plants together under one roof on a 55 acre site and includes assembly and fiberglass production areas as well as a paint shop and installation bays.

One of the first machines to roll off the line included an LT40 aerial device for NiSource in Indiana, an HR46 aerial device for Xcel Energy in Minnesota and a General 65 digger derrick for Brazos Electric Cooperative in Texas.

General manger Clint Weber said: “By consolidating from 10 facilities into one, Terex Utilities will improve internal communications and production efficiencies, which will reduce product lead times to better serve our customers.”

“Our manufacturing process enables delivery of quality products because we utilise a stable and robust supply chain, welding performed by certified team members, powder coating before assembly, and a fiberglass procedure that uses rectangular bi-axial epoxy resin filament winding. Before delivery, assembled units are 100 percent operationally tested. We are able to quickly build quality utility equipment to meet the specific needs of customers.”

Terex Utilities said that it had hoped to celebrate the opening of the new manufacturing facility with customers, and will perhaps will do so once the Covid-19 virus is under control. Until then it has produced a 30 second time lapse video of the new facility under construction, but be warned it is as though it was taken by a drone that has gone into a crazy spin!
