650 and 120 tonners for AKM

German rental company AKM Autokranvermietung has taken delivery of a new 700 tonne Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 as well as one of the first 120 tonne LTM 1120-4.1s to arrive in Germany.

The eight axle LTM 1650-8.1 becomes the Munich based company’s flagship crane, and comes with an 80 metre main boom, a maximum tip height of 151 metres with extensions and a maximum working radius of 112 metres. The company’s previous flagship was a 500 tonne LTM 1500-8.1, which it outlifts by 15 to 50 percent depending on the configuration. AKM has also taken the crane with a luffing jib which it expects to use predominately for erecting larger tower cranes.

Managing director Sven Bauer said: “To date our largest crane was a 500 tonne model. Being able to cover the 700 tonne class with the new Liebherr crane is a major benefit for us. The LTM 1650-8.1 is much more flexible and mobile compared to a nine axle model. The LTM 1650-8.1 can manage 19 tonnes with a hook height of around 80 metres without requiring guying on the telescopic boom. That is perfect for 60 metre tower cranes."

The LTM 1650 -8.1 handover to AKM

The LTM 1120-4.1 features a seven section 66 metre main boom, which the company claims is the longest on a four axle chassis. A 10.8 to 19 metre bi-fold swingaway extension, which offsets by up to 40 degrees, and a seven metre insert offers a maximum tip height of more than 94 metres and a maximum radius of 64 metres.

Bauer added; "The LTM 1120-4.1’s performance on four axles persuaded us straight away. The compact chassis and extremely long telescopic boom at 66 metres are major benefits for urban jobs. It is extremely versatile in all areas. It requires very little space, reaches great heights and is also really powerful.”
