70m Bronto twins for Nationwide

UK rental company Nationwide Platforms - a division of Loxam - has taken delivery of two new 70 metre Bronto Skylift S70XR truck mounted platforms.

The new platforms join 27 other Brontos in the Nationwide fleet, ranging from the 38 metre S38XDT through to the rental company’s largest model the 90 metre S90HLA.

The S70XR has a maximum outreach of 38 metres with a capacity of 120kg, or 33 metres at a working height of 46 metres, while the maximum platform capacity is 700kg at more than 30 metres. It can also reach 10 metres below ground level. The platform was ordered with the optional 440 degrees platform rotation – 220 degrees either side of the boom line. This allows greater access to tricky areas and is useful when working on the opposite side of a building, dock walls or bridge parapets.

Nationwide also specified the heated basket floor option for winter working conditions, built in deck access steps with LED safety lighting and the full lighting package underneath the chassis to enable operators working at height to be able to see the truck below.

The units are mounted on four axle Volvo Euro-6 FMX 500 chassis with the latest safety technology to protect other road users, such as cycle sensors and in cab alert systems, lower door glass on the passenger side, and a full panoramic camera system around the vehicle. The company also ordered TV/film camera and lighting brackets, along with a return to previous position memory control. Material handling attachments include the company's SkyTel antenna handling attachment and a 400kg CW400 hydraulic winch.

Chief operating officer Paul Rankin said: "We have listened to our customers’ demand for more outreach by investing in the popular S70XRs to give them a reliable, flexible machine that offers both the reach and the height to give them maximum versatility. Bronto Skylift is always receptive to our requests for additional innovations to enhance the machines to allow our customers to work safely, efficiently, and productively."

"It was vital that the Volvo FMX 500 trucks were specified to the highest safety standards to ensure Nationwide Platforms continues to play its part in improving road safety for all drivers, riders and pedestrians, and to support our customers with meeting the latest road safety vehicle standards, such as the Direct Vision Standard."

Ian James of Bronto added: "We are delighted to continue to support and work with Nationwide Platforms to strengthen its Specialist Vehicle offering. We always strive to design, manufacture and supply best in class units, and with the added innovations that Nationwide Platforms requested, these new S70XR units will deliver enhanced customer and operator benefits."
