Crane rigger fatality
A man helping rig a crane died on Saturday night after he was crushed under a dropped counterweight slab on a job in Soho, New York.
The crane owned and operated by Crane Express was being rigged overnight in preparation for a lift on a 25 storey condominium construction project in Hudson Square, Manhattan. How the 7.5 tonne counterweight slab came to fall is not known but Gregory Echevarria, 34, of Crane Express was declared dead at the scene. He leaves behind a fiancée and young son.
