Franklin Equipment was founded in 2008 by Gary Gabriel, Troy Gabriel, Tom Richardson, and Tony Repeta, in the Groveport suburb on the south east side of Columbus, Ohio. It now operates with around 300 employees from a further 19 branch locations in Dublin, Westerville, Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio; Indianapolis and Carmel in Indiana; Milwaukee, Oshkosh and Racine in Wisconsin; Nashville, Hendersonville, Chattanooga and Knoxville in Tennessee; Louisville and Lexington in Kentucky; West Columbia and Spartanburg in South Carolina, plus Decatur, Alabama and Augusta, Georgia.
The company is a dealer for Skyjack and Wacker Neuson and runs Skyjack, Genie, Hy-Brid and Teupen aerial lifts in its aerial lift rental fleet. Its telehandlers include Skyjack, Genie and Wacker Neuson.
United’s chief executive Matthew Flannery said: “Today, we welcomed over 300 new members to Team United with our acquisition of Franklin Equipment. This transaction expands our presence in key markets for our general rentals business, with an experienced team that shares our pride in delivering superior customer service.”
Gary Gabriel grew up in the rental business with his father establishing Sam’s Equipment Rental in 1952. The company expanded to five locations in Ohio before selling to NationsRent in 1997.
